- Mokranjac days
Stevan
Stojanović Mokranjac is one of the most important Serbian
composers to this day. He was born in Negotin in 1856, died in
1914 in Skopje. His temporal and spiritual quire compositions
are interwoven in the cultural and musical heritage of our
country and became part of history and everyday music
practices. Famous 15th windrow (collection of songs), which
the author composed from 1883 to 1909 - are among the top
achievements of serbian music, and represent the type of quire
suite inspired by folklore of different regions southslavian
region. The most popular windrow are VI (dedicated to Hajduk
Veljko) and X (the theme of Biljana Platno Belese), which will
later serve as inspiration to Jovan Hristić for the ballet
"Legend of Ohrid".
Each September, from the year 1966 the
festival of music in memory of the greatest Serbian composer
Stevan Stojanovic Mokranac is taking place in Negotin. The
first time is the initial part of the festival was marked
mainly by folklore events. It was a set of amateur foklor
groups, which have previously, through competition and
eliminations took the honor to take the part in Mokranjac days
.
At this festival played most famous musicians from
Serbia and from the territory of former Yugoslavia, but also
many world-renowned pianist and quires. Competition in singing
quire is a crown of Mokranjac days. In the spirit of
supporting the festival, are a number of exhibitions of
pictures, book promotions, Lectures, and trips to tourist
destinations of “Negotinska Krajina”. Sponsor of the event is
the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Serbia.
